Like anyone else, you don't have money to throw around. Recording can be expensive, and a recording project can seem like a bottomless pit, financially. But you need to record effectively, either for professional reasons, or for a personal project. As a recording artist you want to know that when you bring your project to the Beehouse Recording Studio, you're going to get the best value from your investment - both in money terms, and in the quality of your end product.
The Beehouse Recording Studio is a commercial quality music production studio near Telford, Wrexham, Welshpool, Oswestry and Shrewsbury. Studio hire with engineer/ producer costs £40 per hour for music recording. The studio has particular specialisms in funk, soul, dance, electro, dubstep, rock, indie, disco and pop production. So what do you get for your money?
When you see the speed of progress at the Beehouse you'll realise why we charge a professional studio recording rate. We are a team that can bring together the most basic of tunes and turn out, five hours later, a well developed complex modern sounding recorded track. Very few studios have that ease and dependability - and we can do it without great reliance on samples - although we do use these. So the speed at which your album or demo progresses can be quite impressive
How can the Beehouse enhance my recording?
Music production skills at the Beehouse are especially helpful in moving your recording to a more sophisticated level.
We are firstly highly skilled at the art of pure recording, and the less is more approach to the classic minimalists styles of folk music, indie and acoustic pop and rock. So if you had a traditional acoustic or organically performed track to record, you would benefit from audio precision and a clarity of production which is the preserve of top flight recording studios only
Secondly, as we are working regularly in the cutting edge fields of dance music, dubstep and electro, we can contribute highly developed creative skills to more complex recordings, and infuse your new dance track idea with the character and imprint of a current and commercial track.
In addition to the speed of work there is the value-added aspect to what we do. You will be recording with one or more music producers who will impact on the overall dimensions and creative development of your tracks, who can comment on the existing markets and where they see your track placed. Your demo or album, or your single track will therefore be viewed holistically....when complete we can offer you ways to market it and suggest how to get it heard.
How is the recording studio equipped?
Critical to the overall output of the recording studio is its technical spec, and the skills of the engineers and producers who are working with you to record your work. It isn't the number of knobs and switches, although options help, but it's the combination of great equipment alongside skilled and experienced handling. The Beehouse is fully technically equipped to record solo artists, with intensive vocal treatment, bands of all genres, musical ensembles, choirs, theatrical and live events, and a whole raft of other possibilities. Our technical page technical page speaks for itself with the quality of recordings and playback assured by the Yamaha 01V Digital mixer and Dynaudio Active Crossover speakers to name but a couple of our more impressive facilities.
Recording Skills and Staff
Equally important in this process is the inordinate level of skill and experience - and enthusiasm - lavished on your music, whatever the genre, by our recording engineers and producers. Our main engineer, Phil, has several decades of recording experience to his credit and a renowned encyclopaedic knowledge of recording style and technique which will become apparent from the outset. Jane, who works alongside him, has opposing skills of pitch and music interpretation adding to the strength of the overall recording treatment and post production progress.
Whoever is dealing with your recording project, you will meet with the same level of enthusiasm, support and objectivity. We recognise that recording your own material or your own voice in particular can be stressful, and our job is to allow you to reach your maximum potential within your session. The atmosphere is both unhurried and relaxed, but purposeful, the net result is usually a massive increase in your musical confidence. Many new recording artists have found our style, and the rapid progress it provides to be a great positive boost, and we feel much of this is down to the excitement generated when their ideas gain shape so rapidly over a session. Reading our studio reviews will go a long way to back up this image.
An album is much more the sum of its component tracks. When we undertake an album at the Beehouse, we involve ourselve to some extent in the artist's world vision. Where a single track or two can be fleeting moments of perception, an album is a deeper and more meaningful commitment, and this means following through the genre based features which bind the tracks together as a unit.
Some albums are recorded in two days, others have been known to progress slowly over two years - it often depends on the commitments of the artist/s and whether the tracks are all compiled and rehearsed at the start. And if there is a band, this can affect progress.
Rates for albums are often reduced, as they can sometimes represent regular work of a kind, and recording artists can usually arrange regular sessions to help with their need to schedule.
We also offer help with PRS and PPL registration, ISRC coding and marketing your album and singles.
A demo is clearly quicker to produce than an album, but there are critical matters associated with a demo which can sometimes make it a very demanding project. The demo has to present the essence of an artist - not all their best tracks possibly, but some of their finer moments. Sometimes what has to be squeezed into a 2-4 track publication makes it difficult to do justice to the artists.
Beehouse staff are used to working under this kind of precise pressure and demos can, when required, be produced very rapidly. Our team are also pretty adept at absorbing the style and direction of your music quickly and recording it to best balanced effect with excellent mixing and mastering skills.
We can also, as with albums, advise you on those next steps to claiming ownership of your tracks and marketing them.
What types of music do we record?
It's impossible to answer this question without seeming to brag, but when a recording studio has run successfully over a period of years - in this case since 1999, the answer is, virtually anything. It becomes a hobby and in fact a reflex to record whatever and whoever walks through the door.
It's true to say that we have both in-depth skills in instrumental and vocal recording and the consequent mixing and mastering processes. We do both passionately enjoy a wide range of music - we take great pleasure in classical music, often recording on location - although we are now able to recreate the atmosphere and dynamics of many buildings and environments in the studio , where we can also isolate the individual performances better. So choirs, string quartets, bands and individual performers present no object.
We have a strong history in recording pop, and enjoy the challenges of this highly competitive area, as well as the stimulation of producing to an ever-changing style - with specialisms in dance, funk, electropop, synthpop, dubstep and related genres. This is because we create a large quantity from these genres for various markets. So we enjoy this field and welcome any writing projects which take us into current pop styles.
Outside of the pop market, our recording studio customers tend to vary between rock and indie performers, with some acoustic folk musicians. Again these are all styles we are really comfortable working in and feel affection for. These styles involve less production - although it's not unheard of for a folk song to gravitate to a rock anthem once the customer gets a feel for the possibilities of studio instrumentation.
A large proportion of our recording artists are singer songwriters or songwriters and we are particularly specialist in recording vocals. We are able to tune vocals, which is often particularly important whilst a song is gaining its form and structure, with the real vocal being recorded later.
We record individuals, duos, small and large groups and choirs, and we record at the studio and on location. And we produce tracks to whatever style required.
What else do we have?
In addition to technical provision, we have a minimum of two engineers present on most occasions, we have male and female staff, immediately available expertise and versatility in a wide variety of musical genres, and members of staff who can communicate in French, German, Arabic and a number of other languages such as German, Italian, and Spanish to a lesser degree.
