Recording Studios are defined by the music projects they undertake and so we have listed a few of our principal ongoing studio projects below to give you and idea of our musical and technical scope and range.
Eclips'd is a fascinating music project undertaken by the quirky brilliance of Philip Lane, our principal studio engineer. Based on tracks conceived of in the late seventies and brought to light with the aid of modern technology, the album is styled as "tracks which should have been written by Pink Floyd" Entirely recorded, sung and instrumented by Phil, this album will be available in mid 2016 as a rare gem of prog rock nostalgia. If you want to hear samples or talk to Phil about the project, please contact him through the Beehouse.
More information will be available at the forthcoming Eclips'd website, also currently eclipsed by regular work!
Hookstick Funk Band
Hookstick Funk Band is a relatively new project developed by Jane Lane. As a songwriter, Jane is seeking to develop a funk/soul/MOBO fusion as her calling card. This new work is destined for a tour next year in support of the charity Action on Hearing Loss. After an interesting year last year finding a sense of direction, Jane has taken over the initial production phase of her tracks to give them a more personal sound and feel. Hookstick tracks are currently sung and interpreted by Kes C.
Members of Hookstick are currently Kes C, Jonny Welburn, Tom Stedman and Rachael Townend, as well and Philip and Jane Lane.
Hookstick has been variously described as a Funk Band a Soul Band and MOBO with reggae-pop influences. Whatever else, it's a lot of fun and some great up-beat tunes to enjoy as they will be plugged across a wide variety of station in 2016-2017. Don't miss the chance to hear Kes C live this year....
The Workhouse History Film
The History Film is a video project - a commercial video to be used by visitors to the Workhouse to make their visit more meaningful. In bilingual Welsh and English format, the video will be completed in 2016 and has been funded by lottery funding. The photography, film and video capture and editing as well a the audiovisual production is being carried out by the Beehouse Video Production team - Philip and Jenni Lane.
Noochoon Record Label
Noochoon is our developing record label. Currently Noochoon is focused on promoting Henry's Machine as a band, with the aim of developing expertise in the field of promotions. Having promoted and launched Henry's Machine and developed an understanding of how a record label works in a real world environment, Noochoon will be formalising its record label status and offering recording contracts to a select number of artists, particularly those who have recorded at the Beehouse.
Workhouse Live Project
The Workhouse Live series is a series of recording made by the Beehouse of artists and bands playing either in the open air at the Beehouse or at the open Mic and other events taking place there. The music will potentially be available for release either as a compilation album or under negotiation to the bands involved. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you are going to be gigging at the Workhouse and want to get involved.
Henry's Machine is a band formed by Kerri-Anne Collins, Philip Lane and Jane Lane, with some contributions by Jenni Lane. Henry's Machine acts as a vehicle to promote the songs of the individuals involved, and is an experiment in a kind of collective with Noochoon as the rights holder. Henry's Machine will see its launch in June 2014, and the Henry's Machine Room will be dedicated to experimental music ideas and new genre ideas as well as being used as a pre-production and songwriting suite.
MantraSound Dance Promotions
Since 2008, the Beehouse has become increasingly involved in the dance music scene, with a strong specialism in electronic pop, electronic dance, dubstep, house and techno alongside more mainstream current pop, rock and ballad. Because of this leaning, and the need to create outlets and testing grounds for our music, we have developed links with a select number of DJs up and down the UK for the purposes of trialling our newly released tracks and producing videos of crowd reaction etc. This is useful in determining new styles to develop and ways of marketing our products.
The Beehouse records and produces a wide range of styles other than dance with great success and has been acclaimed in the past for its work with folk recordings, punk and ballads, as well as a limited amount of classical and neo-classical recording and composition.
In 2011, the Beehouse took part in the creation of a video documentary for Powys, and had the opportunity to develop soundtracks for each of the 17 videos to be produced. The Beehouse took on the task of writing the soundtrack for each video, and acquired an invaluable depth of knowledge in the field of soundtrack creation and editing a soundtrack to a video. Our neo-classical tracks have also been licenced for commercial use since 2008 by a number of well-established organisations. Film and video soundtrack is therefore an area of great specialism, and we are happy to create and license music for commercial and creative uses and to edit music to video in a sympathetic way. Any original music is composed under the name of "Lane and Lane"
Molan Spectrum is a band of songwriters again working with a vocalist to give their music a form and flavour. Headed by Jan Mosiewicz as the principal songwriter, the band has released one album with the Beehouse in conjunction with Dave Rea and Laura Woodall, before working with Kerri-Anne Collins. Molan Spectrum is published by Molan Publishing. Jan has also released his own album prior to that with the studio.
Mike Pratt has just completed his album "Where I Stand" with the studio, and is now starting to publicise this. As a prolific songwriter and presenter on his own radio station Mike Live, Mike has considerable opportunities to launch his own album to a circle of listeners. The Beehouse is building links with Mike Live as well as a large number of other presenters and music editors in order to find outlets for the music of increasing quality and currency being developed at the studio.
